February just went by like a breeze, hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s celebration with family and loved ones.
Lent is here and many of us would want to reflect on the true meaning of this season. Based on our Christian culture, Lent is the season of SPA (Sacrifice, Prayer and Almsgiving) not the place where you go to relax and get rid of stress.
We observe fasting and abstinence as part of our sacrifice. The usual tradition is to abstain from a favorite food or a favorite activity during the 40 days of Lent.
We also visit the church more often doing the Stations of the Cross and currently our parish is doing the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament everyday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM and we encourage everybody to visit. We also do the “Visita Iglesia” during Holy Thursday.
We as a community was acknowledged by Fr. Al for donating the Tabor (A monstrance stand for the Blessed Sacrament) which we will regularly see during our Wednesday novenas.
Lastly, Lent is also a time of almsgiving. Despite the economic situation, we know that the Lord will provide us with the resources that will enable us to share part of our finances with our Church and the needy in our community.
Every Friday during this Lenten season, find time to serve in our soup and salad dinner and fellowship with our brothers and sisters in the community. I heard they have a variety of good soups being served and deserts too.
March Big Event! “Spring Dance Fund Raising” was announced during the Sunday masses. Get ready with your dancing shoes and prepare to have a lot of fun and exercise. A $20.00 donation will include dinner catered by Pat & Oscar’s. Invite your friends. Our program will start at around 7:00 PM March 6, 2010 Saturday at the St. Cecilia Hall.
