Priest Appreciation Celebration highlights:

Again, the Filipino Community of St. Cecilia Church played a major role in the festivities last July 19, 2009 during the priest appreciation celebration. Manny Rodriguez, our President, together with Robert Loera of the Knights of Columbus and Felipe Castillo of the Hispanic Community served as emcees for the occasion. The colorful costumes added life and a joyful atmosphere to the event. The generosity of the Church community members by sharing whatever specialty food they can bring added to a stronger bond and camaraderie among members of the community.
A lively Filipino song was rendered by our Filipino choir conducted by Pilita Sayo, the Filipino community dance troupe for the first time shared their dancing talents with the whole church community, by rendering a native dance called the “Subli” a way of sharing our cultural heritage. Quoting from the words of Pilita who said, “I received very positive feedback both for the song and the dance, even from the non-Tagalog speaking audience”. Christine Linares, the daughter of our Vice President, Zeny Deocampo also delighted the audience with her singing prowess by sharing a couple of Broadway songs.

The Hispanic Community likewise, shared some of their regional cultural dances from the different parts of Mexico. The Indonesian community invited the audience to participate in playing their bamboo instruments.

A million thanks to the people who really have servants’ hearts who helped during the backyard barbecue: The Sayo family, Lita Davidson and friends, Chakie and Jimmy de Guzman, Zeny Deocampo, Lucy Harvey and other members who were there but who I failed to mention.

Condolences:

In behalf of the Filipino Community we would like to extend our deepest condolences and sympathy to Zeny Deocampo and family whose brother, Honorato Deocampo joined our Creator. Let us remember him during our prayer time and offer a prayer for his eternal repose.
